We all have heard the many news stories following the cyclone in Myanmar. The death toll continues to rise and the attitude of their government continues to make me cry in disbelief and sorrow. As horrible as all of this is, we aren’t hearing the real stories—stories of atrocities against the newly orphaned children.
The orphan has no one to protect them. Atrocities of forced prostitution, forced slavery, organ harvesting and other horrors are nothing new. Following the chaos of the cyclone I have heard reports that the traffickers are having a heyday. Kidneys and other organs are being taken at the cost of a child’s life. Pornography and the child sex trade is flooded with new victims. A child who is suddenly without parents, home and food quickly goes with the person who offers a bite of food or a place of shelter. Little do they know their innocence is soon gone forever.
PLEASE, don’t just shake your head in disgust. Support those who are making a difference TODAY. Several reputable organizations are trying to save the children. They are working to save them in the short term as well as to put together the infrastructure and people to care for the orphans long term.
Won’t you help? If you don’t know of an organization at the forefront may I recommend World Orphans (http://www.worldorphans.org/) and Asia Heartbeat (http://asiaheartbeat.org/).
A child’s very life may depend on what you do!
